Dunwoody Update: Weather, Power Outages, Road Closings, Events

1. Weather …. Mother Nature is once again proving she is a very tough adversary. The streets are all very slick and unless you have an emergency I highly recommend you stay home or if you are some else place that you stay put. I got out and drove around about 4 hours ago … someone has to be the guinea pig. There is very little traffic and I thank everyone for staying off the roads. The main streets are somewhat passible if you know how to drive on ice and are very careful. The neighborhood streets and parking lots are a sheet of ice. Since I have been out the situation has deteriorated due to the continuous freezing rain. Our crews have been out plowing and spreading salt and sand since the wee hours of this morning … my thanks to their dedication and the dedication of our police officers as they work around the clock. As I read the radar we are going to continue to get some freezing drizzle and snow until about 2:00 - 3:00 AM Thursday. The temperature is not forecast to get above freezing until about 10:00 AM tomorrow morning. Thus, the streets will still be very dangerous. I recommend you put your driving plans on hold again tomorrow. The more you can stay off the roads the more we can work on getting the roads in driving condition. The temperatures are forecast to get up to about 40 tomorrow afternoon but there will be freezing temperatures again Th night. So Friday morning will again dangerous driving. This is a good time to catch up on "Family bonding." This is also a good time to ensure we take care of each other and especially those neighbors that may need some extra help. If you need help please don't be hesitant to ask for help …. that is why we call ourselves a "Community."

2. Power Outages … We have had a few power outages due to trees falling on electric wires. Due to the safety of our crews we are restricted from removing those trees until the power company deems it safe. The good news is that we have seen the power company truck in Dunwoody. If you see a power line down I recommend you stay away from it and call 911. If you have a power outage the Georgia Power phone # is 888-891-0938. We have had other trees fall onto the streets and those trees have been removed by our city crews. If you see a tree down please go our website … … and report it on "SeeClickFix" or call our Public Works Dept. at 678-382-6850 … after hours call 678-382-6700 and press 2 when you hear the recording.

3. Need Help … If you have an emergency and need help call 911. Our police cars have chains on … how is that for planning ahead … and or EMT vehicles can also get around. The bottom line … help is available.

4. Road Closings …. There are some road closings due to ice, and or trees and power lines down. Perimeter Center Parkway Bridge and Ashbury Square between Ashford Dunwoody Road and just passed the Walmart are closed. Dunwoody Club Dr is currently being evaluated for closing.

5. City Hall … Except for essential emergency services the City Hall will be close again tomorrow. All meetings scheduled for tomorrow have been cancelled.
