Dunwoody Update: Town Hall Meeting, Voting, Memorial Day

1. Town Hall Meeting for Dunwoody Home Owners Association (HOAs) Leadership … This meeting will take place tonight in room J200 at the Dunwoody Baptist Church from 6 - 8 PM.  Room J200 is located in the Sports Center which is located south of the main church building. I recommend you enter off the Ashford Dunwoody Rd entry. We would like to see at least two of the leadership team of each HOA attend. If the leaders are unavailable request you send a couple of other folks from your HOA. As with all of my Townhall Meetings everything is open for discussion. Among the initial items I will cover are the details of the proposed purchased of the building for our new City Hall. See you tonight!

2. Voting in the May 24, 2016 State and County Primary Election … The local “Early Polling” location … the Dunwoody Library … will be open until 7 PM today and from 7 AM to 7 PM tomorrow. Regular voting will take place on next Tuesday, May 24, at your normal polling/voting location in Dunwoody. This is for the Primary Election for all Georgia State and County elections. This is for the state and county elected official that will be making decisions that direct affect each of us for the next 2 and 4 year terms. This is also for the citizens to determine to continue or not continue the current ESPLOST 1% sales and use tax that goes towards capital improvements in the DeKalb County Schools. When voting you must choose either a Republican or Democratic ballot. As part of both ballots there will be a Nonpartisan ballot that is exactly the same regardless of your party affiliation. For sample ballots go to these websites …. Republican … http://web.dekalbcountyga.gov/Voter/pdf/SampleBallot/SB_Rep_05242016.pdf and Democrat … http://web.dekalbcountyga.gov/Voter/pdf/SampleBallot/SB_Dem_05242016.pdf. Although it is getting rather late you can still absentee vote by going to this website … http://web.co.dekalb.ga.us/Voter/applicationForms.html# … and faxing - Ph # 404-298-4038, or emailing your absentee ballot - email address mwdaniel@dekalbcountyga.gov. … make sure you mail your ballot back in ASAP after you receive it in the mail… probably Saturday. Folks keep asking me who to vote for but that is your decision and your decision alone. I will tell you who some of the candidates that I will be voting for but again who you  vote for is your decision …  US Senate .. Johnny Isakson, State Senator 40th District … Fran Millar, State Representative 79th District … Tom Taylor, DC Board of Commissioners District 1…  Nancy Jester, Justice of the Supreme Court … David Nahmias, Judge, Superior Court of the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit… JP  Boulee, Judge SuperiorCourt of the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit … Angela Brown and Special Election for DC Tax Commissioner here there are two excellent candidates Irvin Johnson and Susannah Scott. In the Democratic primary Sherry Boston is running for DeKalb County District Attorney … she is one former Dunwoody City Court Judges and I would vote for her if I could. The ESPLOST issue …usually I don’t vote for tax items like this but I have voted for previous ESPLOSTs. There is a problem with this ESPOST … none of the funds are designated for any particular area or cluster of schools in the County. In plain words the funds will be spent at the discretion of the DC School Superintendent and the DC School Board. I am not to fond of that process. I think of the school tax we pay and then go over to DHS and look at the outdoor athletic facilities and I shake my head in disbelief.

3. Memorial Day … As you all know this is a day we honor all those who have given their lives in defense of the freedom we enjoy. The Dunwoody Memorial Day Ceremony will be celebrated on Monday, May 30 at the Veterans Memorial in Brook Run Park. The ceremony will start at 10 AM shape and will last about one hour. I look forward to seeing hundreds of our citizens there to pay tribute to the thousands upon thousands of Americans who have paid the supreme sacrifice for our privilege of living in the “Land of the Free." I encourage our young families to bring your young school children so that they can learn at an early age that ”Freedom is Not Free.”

4.That is all for this afternoon. Please pass this on to your friends, neighbors and members of your HOA. If anyone wants to be added to my email list just let me know. Thanks for all each of you do to make us a great city family. Let us all work to create an atmosphere of mutual respect that we all desire!

Let Us Continue to Build Our City Together!
