Dunwoody Update: Paving, City Council Meeting, Elections, Dunwoody Village Fire, City Events

1. Paving …
1. The repairing and repaving the southbound lane of Chamblee Dunwoody Rd between Manget Way and Cambridge Dr is scheduled to begin today weather permitting. There will be temporary lane closures. I highly recommend that you use alternate routes and avoid this area as much as possible. This work will take a few weeks as some of the problems are subsurface. This work is covered under warranty and will not be an additional expense to the city.

2. The paving of the intersection at Tilly Mill and N Peachtree Rd is scheduled to begin this Friday (7 APR) at 7 PM and will the a continuous operation through the weekend until 6 AM on Monday (10 APR) weather permitting. There will be lane closures during this period and I recommend you avoid this area to the maximum extent possible.

2. City Council Meeting … The first city council meeting in April will be on TUESDAY, 11 April Start time remain 6 PM … not our normal Monday meeting day. The reason for the change is that Monday evening, 10 April is the start of Passover (The Festival of Freedom) for our neighbors of the Jewish faith. I wish all of our citizens of the Jewish faith a blessed, memorable and fulfilling Passover.

3. 11 April City Council Meeting Special Guest … The new DeKalb County CEO, Michael Thurmond, will be our guest at this meeting. He will be first on the agenda stating at 6 PM. I ask and urge all our citizens to make max effort to come hear our new CEO. He is a very open and straight forward leader. He, along with the current elected officials of the DC Board of Commissioners and the election of Sherry Boston as the DC District Attorney gives me renewed optimism for the future of our County.

6. Dunwoody Village Fire … There was a fire in Dunwoody Village Sunday afternoon that started approx. 4 PM. Three structures were heavily damaged. To our knowledge no one was injured. I commend our Dunwoody Police for their rapid response and patrolling the area and our DC Fire Firemen for their rapid response and their professionalism in containing the fire to minimize the damage to the extent possible. There were DC Firemen and equipment from seven DC Fire Stations involved including two 75 foot ladder truck and emergency medical vehicles. The cooperation between our Police and the DC Firemen was noteworthy. It was a job well done by all from my prospective. The DC Fire Investigators were on the scene within an hour and the investigation in on-going.
