1. Weather … The weather that hit us last night and continues has a double impact … snow plus bitter cold. It was 10 degree at my house this morning. As you know the Governor declared a “state of emergency" last night and DeKalb County was included. When the Governor issues a “state of emergency” for our area you can probably assume that county and city governments in the area will be closed except for emergency services.  Last night we announced the city hall would be closed until noon today but after evaluating the weather this morning it was decided to close for the entire day. In evaluating the weather for tomorrow, for the safety of city personnel, we have decided to delay opening the city for business until 1 PM tomorrow … see below how to get the latest information. We still have a “severe weather alert” for cold temperatures and refreezing on roadways valid until 10 AM tomorrow. You can get the latest information on city operations on inclement weather, etc. by going to our city website … www.dunwoodyga.gov. In addition to our website we have initiated using our “Dunwoody E-News” email list to get weather and other alerts of an immediate nature out to the 13,000 + of you that have signed up for the E-News. Those of you that are signed up should have received an E-News email at 1114 this morning concerning the weather and various other issues the weather has caused.
2. Sanitation / Trash Pick-up. In inclement weather or other emergencies you can go to the DeKalb County (DC) website … https://www.dekalbcountyga.gov … for the latest information on DC operations. This morning across the home page was “DeKalb County is close Wednesday, JAN 17.” That means all operations in DC are shut down except emergency services. If you are on the Dunwoody E-News email list you already know the proposed adjusted DC trash pick up schedule for our area for this week. Tuesday pick-up is now scheduled for Thursday and WED pick-up is scheduled for Friday. I caution you to stay informed because of possible continued hazardous road conditions the pick-up now scheduled for Thursday could be in question.
3. Sanitation / Trash Pick-up #2 … Also, unrelated to inclement weather, anytime a holiday fall within a given week trash pick-up day will the adjusted forward or backward depending on the day the holiday falls on. To get the DC holiday trash pick-up schedule for 2018 go to this website and scroll down … http://bit.ly/2E8Y81p.
4. City Hall … Our new City Hall is open and as of DEC 31, 2017 we were all moved in. The build-out was completed on budget and on schedule. The thanks goes to our staff, program manager and our construction firm. Also thanks to the members of the Dunwoody Garden Club for donating the funds for the new flag pole. I will use two words to describe my feelings about our new city hall and those two words are … outstanding and excitement. The new city hall and the 2.6 acres that it sits on belongs to all of us in the Dunwoody Family … it is our City Hall! We will have an open house when we all get settled in probably some time in March / April timeframe. The date will be announced later.

7. MLK Jr Day of Service … Over 300 very hearty and dedicated individuals from many walks of life joined in on what was not the warmest day to preform various acts of community service. This event builds community spirit and maybe more importantly an enhanced spirit of togetherness. My thanks to all the organizers and participants … you are the best.
