Dunwoody Update: Dunwoody Restaurant Week, Mt Vernon/Vermack Intersection, Paving, City Council Minutes, Brook Run Park Improvements, Real Estate Taxes, Bulky Item Collection, Fun Night

1. Dunwoody Restaurant Week … Two more days … today and tomorrow … left in this annual great event. For detail information on deals at participating restaurants go to …

2. Mt Vernon / Vermack Intersection Improvement … With the help of our local representative on the DCBOC, the DC CEO and other DCBOC members the DCBOC passed our Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) for this intersection improvement this passed Tuesday and I signed the contract which gives the contractor “Notice to Proceed” on Wednesday. The city's portion on the contract is $1.28 million and DC portion is $400K to install new waterlines which will be installed in the ROW but NOT in the road.

3. HOST Funds … We will get HOST funds for the first three months of the year … HOST went away on April 1, 2018 replaced by SPLOST that we passed last November. Originally it was in doubt if the cities of DC would get any of these funds but in joint meeting with DC CEO Thurmond and the mayors of all the DC cities the DC CEO agreed that the HOST funds would be paid using the same formula that previous HOST were distributed. Your City Council held our ground and instead of receiving the estimated payment as the final payment, we will receive the estimate payment now and it will be settled up plus or minus when all the data is in this August.

4. Paving … We have about 1/3 of our 2018 paving completed. So far, the paving comp[any has done excellent work. The constant rain has slowed the paving process but we should be back paving hopefully this next week.

5. June City Council Meetings … Due to the City Council members attending the Georgia Municipal Convention June 22 - 25 there will NOT be a second city council meeting in June.

6. Brook Run Park Improvements … The Council Members gave the staff permission to proceed with concept planning for the these improvements at our CC Meeting last Monday. This will give the staff and construction team the ability to come up with some cost numbers for the project. This does NOT mean that the current plans are final … this process only gives us cost figures that will be used to determine final plans.

7. Real Estate Taxes … We are NOT raising the City Real Estate Tax millage rate … It has been the same low millage rate of 2.74 mills since we became city in 2008. For those of you that own and live in your home your tax millage rate is 1.74 mills. The “Tax Assessment Notice” that we all recently receive from DC does not include SPLOST tax reduction. That will be noted on your final tax bill you will receive in the August time frame. Remember this tax reduction only pertains to the DC portion of your tax bill … not the school tax, etc. The average tax savings for a Dunwoody resident with a home appraised valued of $250K will be $270 or 37.5% less than your 2017 DC real estate tax.

8. DC Offering Free Bulky Collection … This includes bulky items of furniture and appliances. For those Dunwoody residents whose regular collection day is Tuesday your service dates will be June 15 and 16  and for those residents whose regular collection day is on Wednesday your service dates will be June 22 and 23. You must call 404-294-2900 to be placed on the bulky collection list. Be a good neighbor and do not put you items at the curb early.

9. Fun Night … Tomorrow night, June 16, the second in the City of Dunwoody "Groovin on the Green” Summer Concert Series will take place at Pernoshal Park starting at 6 PM. Back by popular demand the concert features “Darlington Road” … a group that plays a broad spectrum of music. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and come enjoy the show with your friends and neighbors.
