Dunwoody Update: Run-Off Election, Paving, Overlay District, Mt Vernon/Vermack Intersection, Safety, Events, Sad News

1. Run-Off Election … Tomorrow, JULY 24, 2018, is the Georgia Primary Run-off Election. Voting will be at your normal voting location and the polls will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM. Since this is a primary run-off election you must choose a Republican or a Democrat ballot … non-partisan issues will be the same of both ballots. I am frequently ask by citizens … “whom should I vote for.” It is not my place to tell you who to vote for … that is strictly your decision. I will tell you whom I am voting for on the Republican/Non-Partisan Ballot and you can use the information as you see fit. Whom ever you vote for  … Please Vote! Thousands of American men and women throughout our history have paid the supreme sacrifice to preserve our privilege to vote. You will honor them by voting. Here is who I will vote for tomorrow…
Governor … Casey Cagle … He has been strong on education his entire political life including technical education for those not attending college. He has work side-by-side with Governor Deal over the last eight years which has been a period of enhanced quality of life for all Georgians across the spectrum. He is a strong family man with conservative values. He has the endorsement of Governor Deal. He was a major supporter of Dunwoody becoming a city.
Lieutenant Governor … David Shafer … He also was a strong supporter of the Dunwoody city movement. He has a strong record of being a fiscal conservative. He was instrumental in getting the tax cut for Georgia citizens approved. He is endorsed by Governor Deal. He is originally from Dunwoody and received education through high school in Dunwoody.
Secretary of State … David Belle Isle … David is a strong family man and most recently was the mayor of Alpharetta. During his tenure as mayor his efforts improve the quality of life of his citizens while keeping Alpharetta in a strong financial position. He is a superior talented individual and will serve the citizens of Georgia in an outstanding manner as Secretary of State.
Judge, Superior Court of Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit … Latisha Dear-Jackson … Both of the candidates for this judgeship are quality individuals. Latisha has an in-depth and long professional record of legal experience. She has a record of being fair but extremely tough on crime. She has also been recommended by high ranking and highly respected judicial officials in DeKalb County.

Again, Please Vote!

2. Paving … The rain continues to hamper our paving progress. We have 11 streets that require deep-reclamation … this means replacing the sub-surface structure prior to putting on the asphalt topping. This usually means that these street were not properly constructed when they were built several years ago. We will continue to push forward as weather allows.

3. Dunwoody Overlay District Discussion … The issue will be revisited at the AUG 14th Planning Commission Meeting. Meeting starts at 6 PM at City Hall. There is not “done deal” on this issue so input is still be received and evaluated. In addition to the planning commission meeting there will be additional meetings for public input.
4. Mt Vernon and Vemack / Manhasset Intersection Improvement … As you notice construction has started in full swing at this intersection. I would recommend avoiding this intersection during the daily construction period of 9 AM - 4 PM.

5. Safety … Two safety tips…
Please observe Georgia’s new Hands Free Driving Law … I believe this will greatly reduced the number of accidents in our city. This is especially important as school will be starting in the next two weeks.
I have notice a serious decline in the use of turn signals. For the safety of everyone please use your turn signals when turning or changing lanes.

6. Events … Some of the outstanding events that are taking place in our city…

Free Family Movie Night … Saturday, JULY 28 in Pernoshal Park … "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." Start time is 7:30 PM.
